There’s new app called Phonto! It’s free (Ad supported) but perfect for adding text to photos. Can’t rotate text or write more than one liners at the moment, but it has potential for being free. BTW: To change font colour, after selecting the colour button, slide the dial in the colour picker menu for more options. Thanks @kewiki for the heads up! :o)))

Insta-apps #26 CLARITY with camera+. it’s really simple!...

Insta-apps #26 CLARITY with camera+. it’s really simple! Just open the photo that you wish to edit, select the scenes tab at the bottom and a new clarity button appears. Press and watch the magic.  I’m very impressed! A side note: when you use lower resolution photos there is a tendency for it to get a little grainy. My guess is they are also applying a bit of an HDR rendering. Just thought I’d let you know so there was no false claims going on! ;-) x

Insta-apps #25 - Ok, here’s how I did this photo (and the...

Insta-apps #25 - Ok, here’s how I did this photo (and the beach photo that followed it used the app too!) Download the app called Dynamic Light (I think it’s on sale right now too!!). We’ll get to this app in a moment. 1) I took this photo of an apartment and applied the #Gotham filter from IG. Save it out. 2) Then I uploaded it again and applied the #earlybird filter. Then I saved it out. 3) Open photo in new app, Dynamic light. Select the FX link at the bottom and apply the color Orton filter. Now depending on how much effect you want, slide the dial up/down. For a more Orton + HDR effect put it around 50-100. For soft Orton effect (DREAMY!) go for 1-50. That’s it! x

Insta-apps #24 This daisy inspired tonight’s #instaapps -...

Insta-apps #24 This daisy inspired tonight’s #instaapps - Selective Focus. Looking at the gerber daisy you might think it was taken with a DSLR. On the contrary, with a little editing you can make your iPhone photo look like you own an expensive piece of kit. 1) Open camera+ and photo where you want the centre portion of the photo to be in focus 2) Apply both the miniaturise and DOF filters from the Special menu in the FX effects. 3) You’ll see in the photo that the DOF blurred it vertically on the left and right and the miniaturisation blurred the photo at the top and bottom. 4) It helps that the flower was also on a solid colour surface (white in this case), so you don’t see the blurred surface at first glance, as the eyes go directly to the textured colours, i.e. a focal point! 5) I fiddled with lighting a bit and then saved it out. 6) Uploaded to IG and applied the earlybird filter. But it took away too much colour. 7) Grabbed saved out photo and reopened in camera+ and applied vibrant filter at about half intensity. 8) Uploaded to IG the second time and there you go! x

Insta-apps #23 Dramatic Clouds. 1) Started with top left photo...

Insta-apps #23 Dramatic Clouds. 1) Started with top left photo off camera roll. 2) Open photo in camera+. Top right photo: Adjusted lighting (scenes tab) and applied vibrant filter (FX effects tab) twice! — often your photo already has hidden colour! 3) Save out image. 4) Open photo in Pictureshow. 5) Apply smoke from the Style -> Noise menu. Bottom left photo. 6) Apply light leak 5 from the Style -> Light menu. Bottom right photo. 7) SAVE and upload to IG.

Insta-apps #22 - UPDATES to two fab apps. They’ve done bug fixing —— Notably, the overlays in 100 cameras in 1 are now DOUBLE high res to compete with retina display. And Camera+ has fixed the issues with certain filters not letting you save them out if you bump the % down. It’s fixed!!! They’ve done a few other changes too. So grab your updates if you haven’t already! x

Insta-apps #21 - How to re-create this? Ok. 1) Photo one is my original iPhone image that I used a vivid filter from camera+ 2) Photo 2 is the image with the HDR effect on it and also the miniaturise filter from camera+. 3) Now we switch to photo fx. First is a blue gradient from the Color Grad filter. Then the first option unde ND Grad to tone it down a bit. 4) Next I chose the sunset/twilight filter (second page of gradients) and applied twilight 3. I pushed the yellow amount down to 0 so it left the water colour alone. And my tight crop does not show the blue that is above the purple in photo fx. 4) Lastly, I went to the special effects tab, chose the color looks menu and selected the basic filter to give the whole photo a soft feel (evening does that to photos as the sun goes down). 5) Save out and you’re finished!!

Insta-apps #20 - How did I do this?? Ok, 1) top left is an original iPhone image and 2) top right is an original iPhone image. 3) Open Iris Photo Suite, and open image one. Set as layer base (see how to do this in a previous tutorial). 4) Open 2nd photo and blend layer with base (see previous tutorial for how to if needed). 5) Now, there is a menu that defaults as ‘normal’. Last time we left that alone. This time press it and select OVERLAY from the menu. 6) adjust slider until desired effect is achieved. 7) save out photo to phone. 8) Opened photo in Pictureshow, tapped on style, then light, and finally selected the light leak filter. Editing Note: if you tap the same filter several times, it’ll change the light position on the photo. Save out when you like it, and all finished!

Insta-apps #19 - Getting the most out of using TSG...

Insta-apps #19 - Getting the most out of using TSG (TiltshiftGen). As you’ve seen with several of my photos, I am a big fan of TSG. Each time I use it, (I believe) my photos look more like miniatures. So tonight I’m going to share my tips on how to get the most from TSG. (1) Location, location, location! Photos taken from up high (London Eye, on a bridge looking down over a town or a stream, on a hillside looking down at a seaside village, the fourth floor of an airport looking down at the planes, on a roof terrace looking down on a city) or from a great distance with large tall objects visible in the foreground (photographing a city scape from across a river) look best. (2) Keep sharp the smallest objects in your photo and blur the larger ones to trick the eye in believing the whole scene is small. (3) Lower the contrast a little and add a little brightness. Harsh lines and shadows tend to ruin the effect. (4) Use vignette to help draw the eye to the sharp areas of the photo. (5) If your small object is up front, blur the background using the horizontal blur. Push the bars apart so that the lower bar goes off the screen if needed. (6) Radial blurs work very well on cityscapes, horizontal blurs on bridges and roads. (7) Play play play! The more you experiment, the better you’ll get!!! x

Insta-apps #18 - App review for 100 Cameras in 1. Ok, I actually got the info from @my3breaths but thought I’d do a review in my #instaapps thread. What can I say?? It’s easy to use, straight forward and let’s you apply multiple effects on images. I’ve taken screen shots of the app above so you can get a feel of the UI. best of all, for a limited time it’s half price. So get your cool filters app for £0.59

Insta-apps #17 - How to put words on your photos?? We’re going to learn how use layers in Iris Photostudio!! 1. Open photo in Iris - arrow button on bottom right. 2. click on 3rd button at bottom (double squares) and select layers from the options. 3. Select set layers as base from the menu. 4. Open new photo on top of other photo (either black text on White background or white text on black background. If you don’t have the white text you can select invert on the FX menu). 5. select the 3rd button (double squares) again. Select layers. This time select blend with base. 6. Adjust transparency until you can see your photo under the text. Save out and you’re done! I then applied the hefe filter before uploading. x

Insta-apps #16 - I’ve had several people ask me how to do...

Insta-apps #16 - I’ve had several people ask me how to do multiple edits camera+ without having to save out each change and reopen the image from camera roll. First I’ll answer that, and then I’m going to share a shortcut I discovered. Picture 1. This is when your image is in the ‘Lightbox’ and you would normally press save on the photo. Photo 2. Instead of pressing the save option on the photo, select the arrow button at the top of the screen on the right. A menu will appear at the bottom with buttons labeled: save, copy, share, delete. Press the SAVE button. Photo 3. Another menu appears. Select ‘commit edits’ from that menu. This will save everything you’ve done so far and allow you to continue editing the photo with other filters. Now, this is the shortcut. Instead of pressing ‘done’ at the top, press edit on the photo again. This will take you back into edit mode. Keep committing edits until you are finished. Then press done. The lower menu disappears and you can now press save on the image and it will save out and close the image. It really does save valuable time in editing. || #instaapps #help #info #tutorial

Insta-apps #14: Here’s a screenshot of another folder with...

Insta-apps #14: Here’s a screenshot of another folder with apps that I use on Instagram. First we start with my favourite, camera+. For this photo I’ve darkened the image (and cropped at the same time). Then saved image out. Next I opened TiltshiftGen. Using a radial blur I placed the circle in the archway so that everything through the arch stayed clear whilst everything outside went blurry. This created the DOF. I then gave it a little bit of a vignette for added contrast and saved image out. Next I used a NEW app called ProCamera. In ProCamera, I selected the FX from the bottom right menu. Then I selected sunny from the colour tab and auto from the retouch menu. Saved changes and the photo was ready to post!! x

Edit: whoops, posted the IG image here. The tumblr app keeps crashing when I try to edit, so here’s a repost of #11!! x

Insta-apps #11 - Duplicate this effect!! First open your photo in photo fx. Select the last tab (special FX) from the menu. Then select day for night. Select appropriate level and save layer. Next select fog! Again select appropriate level for your picture. And that’s it! The NEXT tutorial will go through another edit taking this photo two steps further (too much to do in one installment!)

Insta-apps #12 - Ok continuing on from the last bridge image...

Insta-apps #12 - Ok continuing on from the last bridge image inside photo fx, next go to the Grad/Tints tab and select the sunset/twilight filter from the 2nd page. In the above photo I chose ‘Twilight 1’. Now, you could call it finished here… but reading my past tutorials.. time to take it one step further!  Save out this photo and open the image in the app lens flare. Select the ‘sol invictus’ sun flare from the menu and plant it low on the horizon. Save image and you’re finished! 
